Ok, so you already know I'm a huge fan of Last Exile. I'm also a huge fan of the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. Particularly the Science of Discworld, books which are both hilarious and informative. It's these three books in particular that have inspired this Plot Thing from the Dungeon Dimension. To those curious enough to do so, Thank you, and welcome to my barely used DW account.
For those who don't know there is just too much Discworld to explain here, but in the Science of Discworld, a group of Wizards from the Unseen University first create out universe trying to find a cheap way yo keep warm in winter, in the second book they have to save the world from "the fair folk" by making sure William Shakespeare is born and writes A Midsummer Night's Dream. In the third and final book they have to keep Charles Darwin lives to write The Origin Of Species. All of this is to ensure that the humans on "Roundworld" as they call Earth are able to construct the Space Elevator and leave the planet before the Big Snowball comes back, because having created the place they feel a bit responsible for us. Last Exile fans may be beginning to see where I'm going with this.
Anyway, as many things are the whole situation is the fault of the gods. Alex instead of dying ends up on the Disc, in Anhk-Morpork because one of the gods wants a new game piece, and has decided since there don't seem to be any gods in that dimension there isn't any reason not to take the perfect opportunity to grab such a useful mortal through one of the unnoticed dimensional gaps the Wizards failed to close after the Darwin indecent. After a series if incidents with the ...er good people of Ankh-Morpork, Alex finally ends up at the Unseen University, where it is discovered he's technically from Roundworld. Taking a gander the wizards see trouble a foot on Roundworld and decide it's there responsibility to do something. Alex just want's to get back home, and away from these people, because one day in AM is enough to last him a lifetime. So basically the plot is the Wizards trying to stop the war on Earth during GnF.
It is like anything else I come up with just a series of vaguely connected ideas, like Alex delirious from what he's just been through right after arriving at AM "helps" someo one trying to rob him "commit Suicide," and end up spending time with the City Watch, and The Librarian(who is an Orangutan, for those who don't know) getting his own vanship. It was such a weird idea I just had to share it.
